Biography

Tracy Silna Zur has served twelve years as a Bergen County Commissioner. She is a life-long Bergen County resident, who holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, a law degree from Fordham University, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Rutgers University. She and her husband, Bobby, have three children: Coby, Kayla, and Logan. Tracy was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Practitioner Award by Rutgers in 2020 and received the prestigious Maurice Fitzgibbons County Commissioner of the Year Award from the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC) in 2024.

As a Commissioner, Tracy Zur has many legislative accomplishments. Notably, she spearheaded the Bergen County Food Security Task Force, which has evolved into the Office of Food Security. Initially a response to the impact of the economic crisis caused by the Pandemic, this taskforce enabled the County of Bergen to provide critical infrastructure to our food pantry partners such as computers, refrigerators, and freezers, and help with emergency food supply to prevent pantries from falling short due to supply chain challenges. Her efforts have led to the creation of a “No Wrong Door” model of connectivity between the pantries and social services agencies, and this model has been held up as the gold standard in New Jersey, as well as earning acclaim from the National Association of Counties.  Her work led to her inclusion in both the Rutgers Organics Work Group Food for Waste Reduction and the NJ Food Security Initiative Advisory Committee.

Tracy is a dedicated advocate for employment, housing, and social programs for adults with special needs and formalized county-wide efforts to address post-21 challenges for the uniquely-abled. This led to the creation of Project Search, a program that hones job skills and creates employment opportunities, and has had over a 90% placement over the past six years. Commissioner Zur is an avid supporter of mental health and addiction services. Tracy successfully piloted Teen Mental Health First Aid Training, formed the LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, and established the LGBTQ+ Youth Summit. She also championed the banning of styrofoam in the county,  launched styrofoam densification as a shared service within the County, and kickstarted the creation of a County Energy Action Plan.

Tracy has always been an active member of her community by serving as a Board Member of both the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey as a Women's Philanthropy and Executive Board Member. Additionally, in 2021 she was appointed to serve on the New Jersey-Israel Commission. Tracy also serves on the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Association of Counties and on the Health Advisory Committee for the National Association of Counties.
