Clerk 1 - County of Bergen Department of Elections – Division of Commissioner of Registration
Under close supervision, performs routine, repetitive clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions; does other related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)
- Receives, screens, reviews, checks and verifies assigned applications and other documents for corrections and completeness, refers problems to supervisors for resolution.
- Operates various types of office and mail processing machines such as keyboard equipment, calculators, computer printers, sorters, photocopier, fax machine, stamping machine, labeling
machine, etc.; may perform simple maintenance tasks such as adding toner, paper or changing ribbons.
- Opens, timestamps, sorts and inputs Voter Registration applications, received by mail, in-person, from the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) agency and online from the state website into the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS).
- Updates and processes party declaration forms, change of address and name changes.
- Update and remove deceased and out of state voters from various systems.
- Screen provisional ballots after every election.
- Scan voter information into various systems.
- Prepare and pack materials for distribution to various locations.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- Knowledge of SVRS (Statewide Voter Registration System) is a plus, but not a requirement.
Schedule/Salary:
- Full time – 32.5 hours per week.
- Mandatory overtime during election cycles.
Other:
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with associates, superior officials and members of the public.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
