Social/Family Service Worker Trainee – County of Bergen Department of Human Services – Office of Child Development
Under direct supervision of a supervisory official in a local government social service agency candidate will, perform office and field work required in providing continuing preventive and rehabilitative social services to clients and their families; aiding individuals/families having problems which adversely affect their family unit or personal lives: does other related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Ability to effectively organize work by establishing priorities in day-to-day tasks.
- Ability to gather and analyze information.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate case records.
- Ability to evaluate and identify client needs and provide recommendations for services.
- Knowledge of problems associated with those experiencing social, economic, and other difficulties.
- Knowledge of the resources likely to be required by those experiencing social, economic and/or other difficulties.
Education Requirements:
- Meet the standards for any professional level early intervention personnel position (Special Education Teacher, Social Worker, Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse, etc.)
or
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution in a related health, human service, or education field; AND at least one year of documented professional experience working with children and families in a counseling, supporting, or case management role. Documented professional experience is preferably with individuals’ birth to five years of age and their families.
Schedule:
- Full time – some weekends/evenings may be required.
Other:
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Bi-lingual preferred, but not required.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
